Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri Disqualified from F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix

Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have been disqualified from the Las Vegas Grand Prix due to a technical violation. Post-race technical inspections revealed that both McLaren cars failed to meet the required minimum thickness of the planks beneath them, signaling an illegally low ride height. As a result, Norris and Piastri were excluded from the final classification.

The disqualification has significant implications for the drivers’ title race, with Max Verstappen emerging victorious in the Las Vegas race. Following the disqualification of Norris and Piastri, Verstappen is now tied on points with Piastri and trails championship leader Norris by 24 points, with two rounds remaining.

Both McLaren drivers faced a hearing with the stewards, which commenced at 7.45 am UK time and lasted for over an hour. The final decision confirming their disqualification was announced around 2 am local time, more than four hours after the conclusion of the Grand Prix.

Despite starting on pole, Norris finished the race in second place after losing ground to Verstappen at the first corner. Despite his efforts to defend his position against the Red Bull driver, Norris ultimately slipped to third behind Verstappen and George Russell.

Norris expressed disappointment with his performance before learning of his disqualification, acknowledging that the team lacked pace during the race. He credited Verstappen’s strong performance and the speed of the Red Bull car for their victory, emphasizing the need for improvement going forward.

Looking ahead, Norris is focused on regrouping and preparing for the upcoming races to maintain his lead in the championship standings.
