“Man sentenced to 27 years for brutal stabbing”

    Published on

A man has been sentenced to 27 years in jail for stabbing his partner eight times after she caught him in bed with another man. Ryan Leggett, aged 35, attacked the woman with a knife in an attempt to silence her, causing severe injuries to her neck, chest, lungs, and liver. The incident occurred when Leggett’s partner unexpectedly returned home and found him naked in bed with another man and drugs on November 23.

During the sentencing, Judge Martyn Levett labeled Leggett as unpredictable and dangerous, especially under the influence of drugs, before handing down the 27-year prison term. Additionally, Leggett will face an extended license period of three years upon release, with restrictions prohibiting any contact with the victim or her family.

The court heard that Leggett left the victim to die after the brutal attack, locking her inside the property in Lowestoft. The victim sustained life-threatening injuries, including multiple stab wounds to her chest, abdomen, neck, arm, and hand, resulting in internal bleeding and damage to her liver and lung.

Leggett, residing in Carlton Colville, denied attempted murder but was found guilty by a jury. The victim, who had been in a relationship with Leggett for four years, confronted him upon discovering the illicit affair in their home during the early hours of the morning. The situation escalated when Leggett grabbed a knife from a drawer and violently attacked the victim, leaving her in a critical condition.

Following the incident, Leggett was apprehended at his father’s residence after self-inflicting wounds and expressing his readiness to surrender to the authorities. The victim, in her statement to the court, described the lasting trauma she endures, including post-traumatic stress disorder and ongoing nightmares. She emphasized the profound impact the attack had on her life, necessitating a change of residence due to fear and paranoia.

The victim’s account shed light on the turbulent relationship with Leggett, revealing her struggles to cope with the aftermath of the violent assault. The court proceedings exposed the harrowing details of the crime, underscoring the profound repercussions on both the victim’s well-being and sense of security.
