A man has tragically passed away following an altercation at a pub in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, with police arresting a suspect on suspicion of murder. Tony Powles, aged 62, was involved in the incident at the Red Lion pub on October 9 and succumbed to his injuries in the hospital on Wednesday. The suspect, Harry Mannion, 27, has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
In a heartfelt tribute, Powles’ family described him as a beloved partner, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. The family expressed their deep sorrow at his untimely passing and emphasized how greatly he was cherished by those who knew him.
Mannion, a resident of Wakefield, was initially charged with GBH but was later rearrested on suspicion of murder. He is currently being held in custody while the investigation continues. Detective Chief Inspector Dan Bates of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team stated that a murder probe has been launched, and the investigation is ongoing to uncover further details regarding the tragic incident.
