Parliament ‘suspicious package’ threat as roads closed after discovery
Roads around the Houses of Parliament were closed as authorities dealt with a “suspicious package” said to have been discovered in the area.
It was reported a security threat was discovered in the area of central London. Armed police officers were spotted at the scene.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police told the Mirror the incident has now been stood down and the package was confirmed to be non-suspicious. They said earlier: “On Thursday, 27 February police were called to Victoria Tower Gardens, SW1 at 11:37hrs following reports of suspicious package.
“Officers are currently on scene and are carrying out enquiries. Road closures are in place.”
Pictures from the area have shown police cars set up in the roads close to the Houses of Parliament, with officers standing guard. The College Green close to the area was earlier swept by officers.
One person said: “College Green outside parliament has been cleared by police. An officer told us it’s due to a suspicious package.”
