Stockwell shooting: Man, 32, charged with murder after Lathaniel Burrell, 16, killed
A 32-year-old man has been charged with murder after a 16-year-old boy was shot dead just yards from an Underground station.
Omar Prempeh, 32, was charged with murder yesterday following the fatal shooting of Lathaniel Burrell in Stockwell, South London on March 4. Officers were called at about 3pm on Tuesday to reports of a shooting. The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene while being treated by paramedics.
Police continue to appeal for witnesses and have urged anyone with information to come forward. A Met Police statement today said: “Lathaniel, from Stockwell, died at the scene following the shooting in Paradise Road, SW4, on Tuesday, 4 March. He was 16 years old. His family continue to be supported by specialist officers.
“If you have any information which may help the investigation, please call 101 with the reference 4116/04MAR. You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 if you want to remain anonymous.”
Prempeh will appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday. Tributes have been paid to Lathaniel by members of the local community, who remembered him as a “very bright” teenager. One owner of a local corner shop said he often came into the store and described him as a “nice kid”. His death was described as a “life wasted” by Florence Eshalomi, Labour MP for Vauxhall and Camberwell Green.
