A deadly fire at a retirement home in Bosnia has claimed the lives of at least 11 people, with the blaze engulfing the upper floors of the building. The tragic incident occurred in Tuzla, Bosnia, last night, starting on the seventh floor and resulting in over 30 injuries.
Nermin Niksic, the Prime Minister of Bosnia’s Muslim-Croat region, described the fire as a “disaster of enormous proportions.” Video footage captured flames pouring out of the building’s windows, prompting authorities to begin the process of identifying the victims and launching an investigation into the cause of the fire when conditions permit.
Resident Ruza Kajic, who resided on the third floor, recounted being awakened by a loud noise and witnessing burning debris falling past her window. She hurried out into the hallway, expressing concern for the bedridden individuals on the upper floors.
In response to the tragedy, the retirement home issued a statement affirming that authorities are actively working to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident. Reports indicate that numerous patients are receiving treatment for carbon monoxide poisoning, with three individuals in critical condition at the Tuzla University clinical center.
Savo Minic, Prime Minister of the Serb Republic, conveyed condolences and support, stating, “We feel the pain and are always ready to help.”
