Iran Rejects Trump’s “MOST CRUSHING” Economic Threats

    Published on

Iran’s foreign minister has dismissed recent threats made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who announced intentions to implement the “MOST CRUSHING ECONOMIC OPERATION EVER TAKEN” against Iran. Abbas Araghchi, in a statement on X, criticized Trump’s plan as a distraction from America’s internal financial challenges, emphasizing that persisting with failed strategies will lead to further setbacks and animosity from Iranians. Araghchi highlighted that U.S. economic pressures pose a threat to the global economy and sovereignty worldwide.

Trump’s declaration of initiating “Economic Warfare and Isolation on an unprecedented scale” against Iran came just a day prior, attributing the move to the failure to secure a lasting resolution to the prolonged conflict. The U.S. president, in a Truth Social post, cautioned nations against offering any support to Iran, warning of significant economic repercussions. While not specifying any countries, Trump urged allies to join the U.S. in isolating and defeating the perceived Iranian threat.

China, a major importer of Iran’s oil, faces potential ramifications in the event of escalated economic tensions between the U.S. and Iran. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, addressing Trump’s economic threats, emphasized that sanctions and pressure tactics are not viable solutions, advocating for a diplomatic and political resolution among involved parties.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent later suggested that emphasizing economic measures could mitigate the necessity for large-scale military actions against Tehran. Following these U.S. warnings of financial penalties, oil prices surged to their highest point in over three weeks, aimed at compelling an end to the prolonged conflict and the oil market disruptions it has caused.

Former U.S. ambassador to Israel, Dan Shapiro, criticized Trump’s approach, highlighting Iran’s capacity to withstand economic pressure and retaliate against the U.S. and its allies. Shapiro stressed the need for a diplomatic solution as continued escalation could lead to adverse consequences for the U.S. and global economy. Iran has grappled with severe economic sanctions for years, with negotiations for a lasting peace agreement yielding minimal progress amidst escalating tensions.
