Search and rescue authorities have located an aircraft in the Kawartha Lakes area where a pilot was reported missing following a flight last week. The Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), responsible for coordinating search and rescue missions in Ontario, announced on social media platform X that a plane was discovered on Wolf Lake in Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park, situated approximately a 45-minute drive to the north of the Kawartha Lakes municipality.
The case has now been handed over to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as a missing person investigation, as stated by the JRCC in their post. While not explicitly confirming the identity of the missing 73-year-old pilot named David, the JRCC mentioned that the plane found may be connected to him.
According to Durham police, as shared in a prior post on X, David departed from Oshawa Airport in the aircraft at 8:30 a.m. on Friday with an expected return at 9:30 a.m. It was noted that his usual flying route covers the region south of Kawartha Lakes township and north of Lake Scugog.
The Ontario Provincial Police had previously described the missing plane as a small blue homemade aircraft with the tail marked “FOFZ.” David, identified as an experienced pilot, stands at five feet seven inches tall with a slender physique, black grey hair, and a moustache.
