“Generational Shift: Father’s Journey from Reluctant to Supportive Hunter”

    Published on

Vladimir Batinić from Calgary shares a personal experience about his evolving relationship with hunting. Despite his childhood exposure to firearms during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, his perspective on hunting shifted over time. Initially excited to join his father-in-law on hunting trips, Batinić found their differing hunting styles led to a natural distance between them.

Over the years, Batinić’s son expressed interest in hunting, sparking internal conflicts within him due to his changing values and interests. Despite reservations about firearms, Batinić gradually introduced his son to hunting activities, focusing on safety and respect for nature. However, as his son’s enthusiasm for hunting grew, Batinić’s own passion waned, leading him to explore other interests like yoga and vegetarianism.

Despite his reservations, Batinić eventually agreed to accompany his son on a hunting trip, emphasizing his role as a supportive observer rather than an active participant. During the trip, his son successfully shot a deer, marking a significant milestone in their relationship and his son’s hunting journey. Reflecting on the experience, Batinić acknowledges his son’s determination and pride, affirming his love and support for him, even if he remains a reluctant hunter.

This story delves into the complexities of family dynamics, personal values, and evolving interests, highlighting the challenges and rewards of navigating generational differences and individual passions within a family unit.
