Tens of thousands of music enthusiasts gathered at Great Park in Irvine, California, this past weekend to enjoy performances by their favorite artists at a groundbreaking event supporting women’s health, reproductive rights, and the fight against gender-based violence.
The Daisy Chain Fields charity festival, organized by popular singer Olivia Rodrigo, drew inspiration from the iconic Lilith Fair of the 1990s, featuring an all-female lineup that included a mix of established and emerging artists like Chappell Roan, Doechii, Bikini Kill, and Garbage.
Before the festival kicked off, Rodrigo revealed that they had raised $10 million for the event’s 10 non-profit partners, which was then generously matched by Melinda French Gates, bringing the total funds raised to $20 million. The festival’s mission was to support organizations such as Planned Parenthood, the National Institute for Reproductive Health, and the Black Mamas Matter Alliance.
Rodrigo, who announced the festival back in June, highlighted the importance of supporting causes dedicated to empowering women and girls. The event also featured special performances, including a rendition of “Landslide” with music legend Stevie Nicks and a surprise appearance by Alanis Morissette singing “Ironic” with a twist.
The festival not only showcased musical talent but also offered various art installations and exhibits for attendees to explore. From a LEGO mural to a display tracing the Riot Grrrl movement, festivalgoers engaged with different forms of art and activism throughout the event.
Despite scorching temperatures reaching over 33°C, attendees described Daisy Chain Fields as the “best festival ever,” praising the positive atmosphere and community spirit. The festival’s philanthropy village provided a platform for non-profit organizations to educate visitors about their causes, fostering a sense of unity and support among participants.
Reflecting on the festival’s impact, partners like FreeFrom and the Center for Reproductive Rights expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and solidarity. The success of the event underscored the resilience and unity within the movement for women’s rights and social justice.
The Daisy Chain Fields festival served as a powerful platform for raising awareness, fostering community engagement, and advocating for important social issues in a celebratory and inclusive environment.
