Alanis Morissette Sues Ex-Tour Manager for Blackmail

    Published on

Canadian singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette has filed a lawsuit in California against her former tour manager, Keren Urinov, accusing her of engaging in a “calculated blackmail campaign.” Morissette alleges that Urinov threatened to falsely report her for drug trafficking unless Morissette agreed to hire her as a tour director for a 15-year term and pay her substantial compensation.

The legal action, filed on Tuesday and obtained by CBC News, includes claims of civil extortion, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation. Morissette stated in the lawsuit that she refuses to be coerced into providing a significant payday to her blackmailer and is taking legal action to expose Urinov’s scheme and hold her accountable.

The lawsuit outlines events from 2025 when Urinov, who had previously worked for Live Nation in Israel, was hired as a temporary tour manager for Morissette’s global tour. While en route from the U.K. to Spain for a concert, a bag belonging to Urinov was flagged by British Border Force officials at the airport, leading to her arrest on suspicion of drug possession. Subsequently, Urinov was detained for questioning again the following day.

Following the conclusion of the tour, Urinov and her legal representatives allegedly sent a series of threatening letters to Morissette, demanding a fixed 15-year contract with substantial compensation and other benefits, including assistance with obtaining a work visa for the United States.

The lawsuit also highlights instances where Morissette felt Urinov mismanaged the 2025 tour, including significant financial losses due to errors and past criminal activities that were not disclosed during the hiring process. Morissette emphasized that she had no choice but to take legal action against Urinov and is seeking a trial by jury.

Efforts to reach out to Urinov and Morissette’s representatives for comment have not yet been successful.
