“London Explosives Investigation: 4 Face 19 New Charges”

    Published on

Four individuals involved in an investigation regarding the production of explosives and firearms in London, Ontario, are now confronting 19 additional charges, as per court records submitted on Tuesday.

Those implicated, namely Jerry Tong, Zekun (Alex) Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji, were initially charged in January. All four were either students or recent graduates of Western University, with the male trio having academic backgrounds in the engineering department.

The revised roster of charges presented to the Ontario Court of Justice brings the total number of counts to 31. Some charges are collective against all four, while others are specific to individual suspects.

The new accusations involve the possession of five distinct explosive materials, possession of stolen goods, and unauthorized access to computer data linked to firearm construction.

The extensive inquiry traces back to Jan. 24 when law enforcement responded to a trespassing incident at Western following the unauthorized entry of two individuals into an engineering facility on campus.

One suspect was apprehended outside the building. Subsequent investigations led authorities to a residence in the nearby University Heights neighborhood, where the other three suspects were arrested.

Authorities conducted a thorough search of the residence on 212 Chesham Place, where Wang, Han, and Ji resided, along with two additional residences in Orléans, a suburb of Ottawa, and Gatineau, Quebec.

Charges Relating to Firearms in Other Locations

Upon their initial arrest, the four suspects faced several firearms charges, including the production of a handgun and possession of a loaded restricted handgun.

Additional charges against Tong, Wang, and Ji involve possession of magazines and suppressors, as well as ownership of another prohibited firearm. Tong and Wang are also accused of handling and carelessly storing a rifle.
