Brighton & Hove Albion has secured the services of Promise David as he prepares to make his mark in the Premier League. The Canadian forward will join the club on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, with an agreement in place for a potential permanent transfer worth $29.7 million US contingent on specific conditions being fulfilled.

Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will make his Premier League debut in the upcoming season, setting a new transfer record for the Belgian club. David’s move to Brighton follows a successful stint at Union, where he netted 41 goals in 82 matches and played a pivotal role in securing the club’s first league title in 90 years back in 2025. He extended his contract with Union until June 2029.

The 25-year-old striker, who represented Canada at the recent World Cup, contributed a goal during the tournament despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. With four goals in 14 appearances for the Canadian national team, David’s talent has been recognized on the international stage. Originally born in Brampton, Ontario, to Nigerian parents, David initially featured for Nigeria’s under-23 team before switching allegiance to Canada in 2025 following discussions with coach Jesse Marsch and FIFA’s approval.

David’s journey to Brighton has seen him traverse various leagues, having plied his trade in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before making the move to Belgium in July 2024. Brighton’s Sporting Director, Mike Cave, expressed excitement about David’s arrival, highlighting his goal-scoring prowess, physical attributes, and international experience as valuable assets for the team’s upcoming campaign. As David enters his prime years at 25, Brighton anticipates his continued growth and contribution to the squad.

Brighton, a consistent presence in the Premier League over the past nine seasons, concluded the previous season in eighth place, aiming to build on their performance with the addition of Promise David to their ranks.
