Quebec court has approved Goodfood Market Corp.’s request for creditor protection as the Montreal-based meal kit company seeks to restructure with new ownership or investor support. The company filed for protection with the Superior Court of Quebec, initiating a 30-day shield from creditors preventing them from pursuing outstanding debts. Goodfood plans to leverage this protection to reorganize its operations. The company intends to seek potential buyers or investors for its business and assets. Court documents reveal that Goodfood faced financial challenges after launching an on-demand grocery service in November 2021, which proved unsustainable by October 2023. Despite discontinuing this venture, Goodfood retained 233 employees and anticipates no immediate job losses due to the restructuring. While the court proceedings unfold, customers can continue placing orders that will be fulfilled. Goodfood, founded in 2014 by Jonathan Ferrari and Neil Cuggy, saw leadership changes with Ferrari stepping down as CEO in August 2025, and Cuggy departing by January 2026. Recently, CEO Selim A. Bassoul resigned and was succeeded by Najib Maalouf, the company’s president and COO.
